I fully intended to look up the following quote and include it in my modified rant against the pathetic attempts some people make to hang on to youth and beauty far beyond their expiration dates. I just found it, so here it is. It comes from one of my favorite authors, the wonderful George Bernard Shaw and goes something like this:
"Youth is a wonderful thing.
What a crime to waste it on children.
"
George Bernard Shaw

And, even though the main message of my rant was hopefully implied throughout,
I realized that I never came right out in that post and stated the obvious ..........
the bit of comfort we all can apply to our twinges of loss and regret.........
that the appearance of the package will never be the main thing...
....it's what's inside that counts.
I consider aging part of earning my patina.
ReplyDeleteI EARNED these wrinkles, dammit!!!
ReplyDeleteXO
I love this one Lo...I've never used wrinkle cream..do I have wrinkles??? Yep! Do I wear make up to cover up anything? Nope! Do I wear a girdle to hold in all of the bulges?? Nope..
ReplyDeleteI'm just me..and hopefully the good that's in my heart will shine through..xo
I thought that quote would fit your previous blog but couldn't remember it exactly and was too lazy to look it up. Glad you aren't lazy.
ReplyDeleteThe best I could do is "Too soon old and too late smart"
My quite adventurous youth lasted well into middle age, and I always knew I'd treasure the memories. I considered my misspent youth an investment in such treasure. And now I've forgotten most of what I did ...
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of that quote when I read your previous post. Now I know who said it! :-)
ReplyDeletewrinkley, sagging, but totally happy

We found some relief in an occasional steroid shot. I got some steroid pills to help me cope with this chest cold—since my lungs are shot—and I feel like I am about 18 again. That is a long way from next month when I will turn 77. The same age as when my father died in 1955.
ReplyDeleteLo: Great quote, great observation.
ReplyDeleteI love everyone else's comments also! :)
Bobbie, i agree! And i earned the gray hair, too, from my kids.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the woman who insists on telling sales people how she's always mistaken for her daughter, and the poor kid has to stand there, and agree, or deal with lots of shit when they're alone. NO! You don't look like your daughter, she doesn't have all those lines and that used look. You're still attractive but it's her turn... And, if someone is stupid enough to compliment you like that, they're just being nice. It's not true. [stepping down from soapbox]
ReplyDeleteI love George Bernard Shaw (and you) :)
ReplyDeleteLo...
ReplyDeleteIf I'd known I was gonna live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
LMAO
A great quote it is. My uncle Walt had one he often said shaking his head..."Ve gets too soon alt unt too late schmart. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this is lovely. And I couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you, Lo.
XO
